Exploration into Mayan art and calendrics reveals many different interest areas and approaches. Many researchers are interested primarily in archaeology and epigraphy (hieroglyphic decipherment). Others focus on history, culture, and/or art. The relatively new field of "archeo-astronomy" has evolved around investigations of the astronomical alignments that can be found in ancient Mayan architecture and even in the layout of whole cities. Cosmological and astrological meanings and the workings of the Tzolkin draw the attention of others. Explorations of these mysteries are continuously leading to new discoveries and interpretations in many interrelated areas. Through our workshop program we offer opportunities for individuals to become part of this evolving adventure as we review progress that has been made and share perceptions of evolving meanings, We invite you to "exercise your brain and your vision" as we explore the legacy of the Classical calendrical system, differentiate between various perceptions and interpretations of calendrical workings and meanings, and assess the significance of this knowledge as it relates to contemporary life.

Currently we offer a workshop program titled "UNRAVELLING THE MYSTERIES OF THE MAYAN CALENDAR". This is a 6 part program involving 6 sessions of 3 hours each. It includes a brief historical overview of the evolving field, including contributions made by leading researchers; a review of the correlation question; an overview of cosmological foundations that underlie Mayan calendrics and hieroglyphic writing (essential to understanding deeper meanings); explorations of the workings of the Tzolkin; an introduction to other timekeeping cycles such as the components of the Haab, Lords of the Night, and the Long Count; an introduction to relationships among various "layers of meaning" associated with calendrical cycles based on information derived from a variety of sources, including pre-Columbian codices, as well as an exploration of possible applications to contemporary life.
